On Sunday, March 3 from 1pm to 5pm, come to The Chicago Lighthouse at 1850 West Roosevelt Road to enjoy treats, music, surprises, and family-friendly fun while celebrating the publication of Chicago Treasure, an inclusive book of photography, fairy tale illustrations, poetry, and prose that makes local children the star of their favorite stories. This event is free and open to the public. Chicago Treasure will be available for purchase. Creators Larry Broutman, Rich Green, and John Rabias will be on hand to sign copies of their hardcover book of photography, illustrations, poetry, and prose. Leaders from The Chicago Lighthouse will be speaking about their nonprofit organization, their students’ involvement with Chicago Treasure, and how sales of Chicago Treasure support their invaluable community programs. Children from the Judy and Ray McCaskey Preschool will be there to witness their photographs in print for the first time.   By digitally imposing photographs of Chicago children into fairytale illustrations, classic works of art, and photography of iconic Chicago scenes, Chicago Treasure creates a whimsical world where any kid can dive into a storybook and become the main character, step into a painting at a museum to take a closer look, or explore Chicago’s cultural landmarks in bold ways that may not be possible in the boring confines of reality. In this inclusive and empowering book, every child, regardless of ability, ethnicity, gender, or age is free to see themselves take on great roles in literature and art.  Accompanying the memorable images are clever original poems and playful newspaper articles from the “Chicago Pretender” that tell fresh, condensed versions of classic stories, often with a Chicago-centric bend. All author proceeds go to the Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind and Access Living Chicago, making this truly a Chicago book that gives back to Chicago.
