On Wednesday, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced new restrictions on youth sports in high school football and other sports. The Illinois High School Association announced Wednesday that it would postpone the 2020 high school football season until spring 2021 and revise the schedules for other sports to respond to a new restriction on youth sports announced by Gov. JB Pitzerker on Wednesday. Currently, the first two weeks of the 2018-19 season are scheduled for spring and the last week for 2019-20.

In the spring of 2019, the state legislature passed a law that allowed Illinois to bet on sports, but not high school football and other youth sports.

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker says elementary and high school teams are not yet playing again. Beginning August 15, elementary, middle and elementary school football teams will be allowed to compete, though they will be limited to the teams outlined in the Illinois Restoration Plan. On the same day, the ten presidents and chancellors of universities voted to resume football and other autumn sports.

Northern Illinois is a Division I Bowl Subdivision school, as is Northwestern, which is the next sports team. There are no programs that play in the area, but there are a number of programs that play in Chicago and the surrounding area, such as the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
