Wit Hotel: A Hotel Made for the Trendy Traveler

Walking through the theatre district in the Loop, one might notice a chartreuse zig zag running up a skyscraper, which is actually the 27-story looming Wit hotel that opened in 2009. Through harboring everything from restaurants to a spa to a private movie theater, the Wit hotel has become the city’s state-of-the-art boutique hotel.

Eschewing banal lodging accommodations, boutique hotels like the Double Tree-owned Wit offer less rooms, more personalized serviced and trendy decorations fit for both the weary traveler and those looking to have a night on the town. Rooms are divided into guest rooms and suites that come with a fully stocked refreshment bar, stunning views of the city and contemporary furnishings. Not just operating as a place to sleep, the Wit also offers business and event space to host important meetings and/or special occasions like a wedding. Residing on the corner of State and Lake gives guests an advantage to downtown’s amenities of the percolating theatre district and direct access to the El, but with Wit’s restaurants, lounges and personal services, there isn’t a dire need to even step outside of the hotel.

For fine dining, Cibo Matto presents Italian food while State and Lake offers American treats. On the 27th floor, Roof sprawls out over the city in a premier indoor and outdoor premiere rooftop bar. The indoor lounge is open all year round and hosts music events, but the real star here is the outdoor area boasting fire pits, open sky, live DJ and band sets, handcrafted cocktails and bar bites to nibble on. Also, the cityscape view isn’t bad, either. Party like a real movie star in Wit’s screening room, simply named Screen, where 40 comfy upholstered seats with tables for drinks and snacks prepare for the main feature of a movie, a sports game or an awards show. Rates start at $625 for two hours, so it’s best to team up with some friends to rent it together.

During any time of the year, escape into the Wit hotel to either catch some sleep, get married or have a few drinks while soaking in that view.
