Washington Elementary School Reviews

This school is really sweet and nice. The principal is really AMAZING! we transfered last year form another D65 school (due only to a move) We were welcomed by the principal and staff with open arms. We look forward to all of our children thriving at this school. All that said now for the Parents I would say 75% of the parents are community aware and great! The other 25% and they know who they are. Are really not fair and balanced with the staff at the school. School is about family involvement the teachers are there to open the door of education its our job as parents to implement and practice what has been taught. Please when reading these reviews if you are a first family visiting this school keep that in mind.

There is a good spirit, very caring and kind teachers at Washington! My daughter entered 1st grade after moving from a different country and type of school. Everyone has been so kind and supportive she felt like at home right away. They make the best of what the program is today, are very understanding of children needs and rythm. From the principal to the janitor and of course the teachers it is a great team! great diversity among students. This is probably one of the most progressive school in Evanston.

My daughter is in 2nd grade in the dual language program. Our first two years were not that great. The classroom size was too large and the teachers were fairly inexperienced. My daughter is very intelligent but has fallen behind in reading. Finally this year we got a great teacher which has made all the difference. The school still struggles with improving participation across ethnic, racial, and economic lines. The parents really make the effort to initiate changes and much improvement has come from the PTA (although the teachers do not participate )The community is great! Very diverse and close knit. Seems a little hit or miss with the teachers.

Big neighborhood school (550 +) with a dual language immersion program in Spanish. Great all-day kindergarten with a fantastic in-depth unit on sea animals that the kids never forget. Great teachers who team-teach and get extra help for kids who need it.
