It's okay to give the kids a hug without worry that you are in trouble, even teachers and staff receive and give hugs. My son was in Kindergarten this year, and was having trouble with the transition from Preschool. His teachers were simply amazing! They didn't just simply give up on him (which happens at a lot of schools unfortunately). They stayed on him and kept him engaged, and they eventually brought him along. The change in my son was truly awesome to see. Vanderpoel does a great job with it's kids. They stress education, as well as being productive young men and women. They also exceeded the test scores of Clissold and Sutherlands schools (which tend to get most of the attention in the Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhoods. Great job Vanderpoel! Overall, the teachers appear to be dedicated to preparing the students to be successful and productive young men and women. It is refreshing to be apart of a school that cares for each child. The only area I would say needs some additional attention, would be the younger age group K- 3rd the teachers in those grades are awesome and bring a lot to the school and students, however I would say more volunteers, additional staff and supplemental materials appear to be warranted secondary to class size and the various academic levels of the population. To summarize, I believe that the school does a pretty good job with what they have, nevertheless it would benefit all involved if more attention was placed upon the younger grades as well.” Posted By: student Quality Score: 5 2006-08-21 “I attend Vanderpoel School and I am going into the fifth grade at this point and I was so happy when I came to Vanderpoel in the first grade because I knew it was going to be a great expierience. And guess what, it was! The teachers are faboulas!Parent Voulenteers are great! They help us with our school plays, book fair, open house, and they are always right there when you need assistance. This is a great school of learning! We also have piano lessons, cheerleading, basketball, Spelling Bee, Tennis, Track, Dance Team, Student Council, maybe Football this year and many more! I must say I had heard awesome things about Vanderpoel but still had concerns in regards to the quality of education compared to private school. My concerns vanished quickly and now after being there three years I can honestly say that the principal Dr. Saffold, Ms. Brown and the teachers take education very serious. They really care about the students and the students feel the love and in return they aim high and take it to the max to become the best. VanderpoeL aslo has a grade of above average. Vanderpoel Magnet Academy for the Humanities is the best place in the city of Chicago for your and anyone else's child! I Love the place it's great!”
