Ridge Academy Reviews

Wow, what a great school. Our 1st Grader is off to a wonderful start. She is so excited in the morning to get to class. Here is what matters with regards to our childs education: 1. We will not take a chance and hope that it works out - we have a partner to maintain our childs trajectory in education and mastery. 2. We trust the school and it's staff to expose our child to all the wonders and fundamentals that a great private school education should render. 3. Her scores remain 'Off the Chart' they are high and maintainable. 4. Her social skills are balanced - They have 'Fun' Recess! 5. Special projects to get at what she wants to learn and all of the students input is valued. 6. The administrators understand parents issues with work life balance. 7. She can express herself creatively. Great School.

This is an amazing school. As the parent of one graduate and one sixth grader, I have a good feel for what Ridge Academy provides. The critical thinking skills this school nurtures are life-long, the atmosphere is fantastic for any kid. There are no bullying or cliques-every child fits in. Learning is fun here but serious-the test scores are unbelievable (even though they don't teach to any test). The graduates are all extremely successful in high school & college-they're routinely admitted to the high school of their choice (with many academic scholarships) & college results so far have been fantastic; we have alum at U of Chicago, Wash U in St. Louis, Oberlin, Brown & American U, among many others. I've saved the best part for last-the staff is just extraordinary. Incredibly bright, personable, warm, energetic people- you will think you died & went to heaven when you meet them.

a great small school on the city's south side..excellent philosophy of teaching and learning....its home schooling at your child's pace....give it a look and dont forget to ask for their terra nova scores. Also check out the results of their graduates

This school was founded by parents dissatisfied with the level of education their children were receiving at a particular Montessori school. One of the parents was a Principal, another was an Apple award nominated instructor. They formed a cooperative and pooled their money (mortgaging their homes in some cases) to purchase a beautiful former church building to house the school. Enrollment is limited to keep the class sizes at optimal levels. All classes are organized so that, for example, seventh and eighth graders learn together, tapping into the positive possibilities of peer instruction. The teaching principles are based on the latest research in neurology. Ridge's Terra Nova scores are very impressive. My son has been attending the school since last year. He is very bright, and he fits right into their independent study approach. He's very pleased with the curriculum, and he says it's easy to learn in this great atmosphere.

At last, a school that recognizes that academic success is not just about the test scores. The test scores do reflect the results of a rigorous academic program, but more important than the test scores is the development of critical thinking skills that I have witnessed in my child. After wasting 2 years in a CPS gifted center where accelerated learning was achieved through massive amounts of homework and days spent completing worksheets, we are thrilled that our child has rediscovered the joy of learning.

Excellent school with great teachers and staff. The classes are combined, (1st & 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th and 7th & 8th), so the kids work together and learn from each other. Ridge Acadamy is a very small school and the parents always a involved with in school and after school activites parents.
