Twin Anchors Restaurant & Tavern: Neighborhood Feel, National Reach

Chicago is a city known for its barbecued ribs, and you'll likely will find no better slab than at Old Town’s historic Twin Anchors Restaurant & Tavern.

A quaint neighborhood establishment that opened its doors in 1932, Twin Anchors is a favorite of not only locals but also of Hollywood big names who like to dine incognito. Ribs-lover Frank Sinatra found his way to Twin Anchors and made it is haunt for the next 20 years.

The setting is warm; dark wood abounds and brown leather booths line the walls. During Prohibition, the bar became a speakeasy known as Tante Lee Soft Drinks.

The ribs are coated in a sweet sauce and come with a choice of sides. The menu also offers shrimp, fish, steak, salads, combo plates, sandwiches as well as a children’s selection.

It's rare to find a tavern like this still in existence in Chicago. The 1999 film Return to Me with Minnie Driver was partially filmed at Twin Anchors, as were scenes in 2008’s The Dark Knight.

On any given day you will find a loyal following of  young and old. A jukebox hums with wonderful oldies and a “Positively No Dancing” (they mean it) sign hangs near the bar. But in the summer Twin Anchors has outdoor dining where you can dance the evening away.
