
Moody's Pub has two distinct personalities. Named for owner John Moody, and not a state of mind, Moody's is known for making the best hamburgers in Chicago.
This Edgewater/Rogers Park staple founded in 1959 should be on your "favorites" list. In addition to great char grilled burgers (the most popular on the menu is the bleu cheese burger) Moody's has one of the best if not most popular beer gardens in the city. Located adjacent to the restaurant, the garden is large and shaded by old maple and elm trees. The seating is tiered and often shady. Tables are candle-lit and a back wall water fountain adds to the charm and comfort.
In winter, Moody's is packed as diners seek out its two roaring fireplaces. Never brightly lit and bordering on dark, the interior of Moody's is just the thing for Chicago's frigid temperatures. Dark wooden booths line the walls and thick wooden tables are strategically placed around the large room. The walls are covered with items retrieved from the Moody family's Iowa barn and include things such as paintings and old farm tools.
Casual and comfortable, this is the place to order a pitcher of beer and gear up for some good conversation. In addition to burgers, Moody's offers sloppy joes, fish sandwiches, steak sandwiches, salads and fried shrimp. Beers on tap include Michelob Lite, Anchor Steam and Berghoff Dark.
The most important thing about planning a visit to Moody's is that they only accept cash payment. An ATM is located on the premises, just in case.
