A man that was suspected of shooting a Chicago cop on Saturday night was in police custody Sunday night September 12th. Detectives say the Kankakee man shot a police officer and went on carjacking spree on the South Side Saturday night.
The 25-year-old man allegedly began his crime spree when he was seen carjacking a vehicle around 3 p.m. Saturday on the Dan Ryan near 47th Street, police said.
Immediately after the Chicago police officer was wounded by gunfire Saturday night, officers began an extensive search to catch the suspect. Gang enforcement officers were given information about the 25-year-old man's location.
Officers were already in south suburban Chicago Heights when they spotted a 2002 gold Saturn that was believed to be carjacked by the suspect after he allegedly shot an officer hours earlier.
The suspect was taken into custody, but had not been charged as of Sunday night.
