Film Boot Camp (Film Boot Camp at Chicago Photography Center)

Film is not dead! If you want to experience how photography was done before all this digital stuff came along, this is the class for you. The Film Boot Camp is a crash course that introduces students to the basic operation of a film SLR camera. You don't need any previous experience whatsoever - it's a workshop meant for beginners. You don't even need to own a film camera - we can provide you with one for the class. During the first half of the class you'll learn how to operate the camera to get the results that you want. There will be lectures and short shooting assignments in the CPC neighborhood so you will have the opportunity to become very familiar with camera operation. Then, you'll learn how to develop the roll of film you have just taken. After lunch, you'll spend the rest of the day in our darkroom learning how to print photographs. If you have an SLR film camera, please bring it with you. You'll also want to bring the user manual if you have it. If you don't have the user manual, don't worry - we will work with you so that you fully understand your camera. And if you don't have a film camera, we can provide one to you for the class. At the end of the day you'll go home with a new understanding and appreciation of film photography and two 8" x 10" black and white prints that you shot and printed. Class is limited to 5 persons, so don't hesitate to sign up for this one!
