Halloween kicks into full gear this weekend with the seasonal opening of The Fear Haunted House at Navy Pier. Be prepared to bypass killer clowns, vampires and the oh so dreaded Captain, or risk not making it back alive.
Besides trick-or-treating, paying for a fright is a staple of Halloween, and The Fear recognizes this. Produced by Zombie Army Productions, the treacherous haunt takes place in a converted house on the famous pier. As the story goes, The Captain and his crew kidnapped “the most feared creatures known to man,” such as a Romanian vampire who doesn’t look human, an albino clown, werewolves and brain craving zombies. Acting together, these monsters and more try to sabotage anyone who enters the house. Of course, none of this is real – or is it? The only thing to fear is fear itself, right? The crew will do their best to shock people by jumping out at them, touching them and chasing them down dark corridors, all the while leaving a trail of dastardly entrails and viscera.
Due to the nature of the beast, it’s best to keep the little ghouls away, except for the kid-friendly days on October 11th and earlier on the weekends. On those days, children and their families are invited to explore the house with a toned down, lights on version. The evil clowns have to sleep sometime. The horror begins October 8th and runs Thursday-Sunday nights through Halloween night. Don’t like waiting in lines? Purchase a VIP ticket to step right to the front and be one of the first to brave the things that go bump in the night. Halloween only comes once a year, so instead of driving hours to a cornfield maze in the middle of nowhere, celebrate the scariest holiday in the heart of the dark city.
