Taste of Chicago: 10 days of food and fun
When it comes to Chicago festivals, it’s pretty hard to top the Taste.
The annual Taste of Chicago offers up food from around the city, top musical entertainment, amusement rides and interactive activities which make it the top draw of the summer season.
The 29th annual Taste, from June 26 to July 5 in Grant Park, offers up hundreds of menu items from more than 70 restaurants, along with daily free concerts. More than 6 million people attend the event, where foods ranging from pizza to alligator get served up.
While the food takes center stage at Taste, musical performances throughout Grant Park provide top-notch entertainment. This year’s line-up includes such heavy hitters as The Wallflowers, Barenaked Ladies, and Counting Crows.
R&B fans will enjoy performances by Ne-Yo as well as Charlie Wilson and the Gap Band. Tribute bands Super Diamond and the Afrodisiacs have the classics covered. There’s even Broadway’s biggest hits with Broadway in Chicago Concert in the Park on June 29, when the casts of Jersey Boys, Mary Poppins and Young Frankenstein take the stage.
There’s an Independence Eve Fireworks Spectacular, with an incredible display and performances in honor of the U.S. fight for freedom. Amusement rides and activities are offered for young Taste visitors, and cooking demonstrations from renowned chefs entertain adults. Local musicians and international fare entertainers perform, and a market with wares from around the world is open to guests.
If you hit only one Chicago festival this summer, the Taste is a sure winner each and every year. With great food, terrific entertainment and a spot along the lake, it really can’t be beat.
