A great and penny-wise way to experience the world-renowned Chicago Symphony Orchestra is to hear some of their best perform as chamber musicians — for free.
On Saturday, May 16, the Chamber Soloists of Chicago, made up of orchestra members Nathan Cole, violin; Brant Taylor, cello and pianist John Novacek will perform piano trios by Haydn, Rachmaninov, Mendelssohn and the duo Canon for Violin and Cello by Sibelius.
The chamber presentation is part of the orchestra's All-Access Chamber Music Series, which provides a casual opportunity for listeners to experience classical music and hear observations from the musicians themselves.
Held in the beautiful Grainger Ballroom within Symphony Center, the chamber concerts are relaxing as well as educating. Chamber music is written for a small group of instruments that traditionally fit into a small room within a palace. Often called “music for friends” because of the intimate setting, it was often played by amateur musicians in their homes.
All-Access Chamber Music does four free concerts per year. Call (312) 294-3000 for reservations, which are required.
