Bucktown Arts Festival

There’s a reason the Bucktown Arts Fest has been a popular Chicago draw for 24 years.

This bustling festival held on Saturday, Aug. 29th and Sunday, Aug. 30 in the city’s funky Bucktown\Wicker Park neighborhoods not only attracts more than 180 diverse artists from across the country, it also hosts great live performances.

Taking place in Senior Citizen Park, located at the corner of Oakley and Lyndale Avenues in Chicago, the fest is known its high-quality art as well as for its food and entertainment. Through the two-day event, the main stage offers, jazz, blues, rockabilly, poetry, theatre and dance events.

If you are looking for a great way to spend a weekend, this fest is a sure-bet. Here you will find everything from paintings, sculpture, glassworks, carving and textiles to name but a few.

What’s more, any opportunity to go to Bucktown is a treat. Designated a Chicago Landmark, it is laden with great shops, galleries, theaters and popular restaurants, this textured ‘hood grew out of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 and attracted both wealthy and blue-collar workers. Once ethnically rich—Germans, Scandinavians, Poles, Jews, African Americans and Eastern Europeans lived there at the same time—remnants remain in its architecture, churches and residents.

Free to the public, the fest runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day and Saturday features a showing from the Chicago Short Film Brigade from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.   Proceeds from the Bucktown Arts Fest are used to support the arts and community programs.
