There is no truer definition of “The World is a Stage” than Chicago’s annual World Music Festival. Over the week-long event from Sept.18-24th more than 60 acts will perform in 20 locations throughout the city.
Each year this festival of international music has grown in popularity drawing an estimated 45,000 visitors. The one-week festival is held at different venues and features both traditional and contemporary from diverse cultures.
It has become the largest and longest running festival of international music in the U.S.
Performances in the past have included dance, group and solo acts in everything from Italian folkloric percussion to Senegalese Hip Hop. This year events will be held in the Bottom Lounge, the Chicago Cultural Center, Daley Plaza, Millennium Park to Chicago’s House of Blues, and museums, parks, theatres and other venues throughout the city.
Many of the performances are kid-friendly and this fest is suited to the whole family. In addition to providing great entertainment, it is also a way to expose friends and family to different cultures.
The fest attracts a lively, music-loving crowd and this is one event in which the music will put you to sleep. Instead it is likely you will head for home with melodies and rhythms still playing in your head. Most events are free. Check the World Music website for dates, times and specific locations.
