Used car purchase I recently purchased a vehicle from Freedom Auto Depot in Oct of 2006. What a mistake. I live three hours from Chicago and decided that the truck I found on their website was what I was looking for. So I called on the truck and asked the typical questions and found the vehicle to be to my liking. I told the sales manager that I would be in on Friday morning to test drive and consider purchasing.
So after I drive three hours on Friday I come to find that they sent the truck to "auction". I even called on Thursday to confirm that I would be there and then I called again on Friday as I was on the way there. But still the truck was sent to auction.
Amazing.
So there I sat in their waiting area after being told that they would run down to get the truck back. 5 hours later…… Let me repeat that. 5 hours later the truck shows up. By this time it is dark and the street are packed with rush hour traffic. So needless to say the test drive was cut short. Dino, or what ever the hell the salesman’s name was, is probably the worst salesperson there is. Just a suggestion, if you are going to be in a public position you may want to have some sort of personality.
So after driving the truck (after a 5 hour wait) I decided that I liked the truck and wanted to buy it.
About a week after I got it home the power window stopped working and the supercharger bearings started to make a grinding noise. I understand that things like this happen and the “buyer beware” but what really opened my eyes to the way they do business is that when my license plates arrived at Freedom they sent me a card to come pick them up. I called the next day and asked them to mail them to me. They told me that they do not mail plates to anyone. I explained that I live three hours from them and it would be stupid for me to drive in to get my plates. After 5 minutes on hold they told me that they would overnight them to me. At my expense. That’s nice, I spend 13k on a vehicle and they want to charge me for the mailing of my plates. I know writing this review will not make a difference in the way Freedom does business, but I hope this at least discourages anyone from buying anything from them.
