Lambs Farm: where charm and charity meet

Published: May 25, 2009

There are few places more entertaining for the family and beneficial to those in need than Lambs Farm. A farmyard, pet shop, bakery, country store and more welcome visitors, and help those with developmental disabilities lead more meaningful, productive lives.

Located 35 miles north of Chicago in Libertyville, Lambs Farm’s sprawling campus allows adults with disabilities to receive vocational training and be coached in daily living skills and physical wellness. Thousands of annual visitors to the farm interact with the program's participants and help support them through Lambs Farm’s products and services.

Visitors of all ages can enjoy the farmyard where Mrs. Wiggles, a 600-pound pig, resides. Kids will love feeding and brushing sheep, lambs and goats in the farm’s petting zoo, and can then visit horses, cows, llamas, geese and more animal residents.

Patrons can play a round of mini-golf, take a spin on the old-fashioned carousel or ride the farm’s train. Shoppers will love the Thrift Shop, complete with housewares, toys and clothing, as well as Aunt Mary’s Country Store and Bakery, which sells cookies, breads and jams all from scratch. The Country Inn Restaurant offers up fresh-baked bread daily. In addition to regular breakfasts, lunches and dinners, the restaurant prepares holiday brunches and can even prepare picnics, birthday parties, corporate events or other gatherings for private parties. Check the Picnics and Special Events webpage for details.

It might be tough to not take home a new pet from the charming Lambs Farm pet shop, where puppies, kittens, fish and other animals are for sale to new homes. The pet boutique offers a large selection of toys and clothing to outfit the new member of your family in style.

Mooonlight Mooovies are shown Friday evenings throughout the summer, where visitors can enjoy family-friendly films while picnicking at the farm. Other special events throughout the year include popcorn days, Barn Burner BBQ’s, Haunted Harvest Halloween celebrations, arts and crafts shows and even breakfasts with Santa.

With such charming activities, all benefitting an important cause, Lambs Farm might just be the ideal attraction for families. A place where kids can laugh, play and learn the importance of helping others: Now that’s worthwhile entertainment!
